Researchers at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ have been awarded a grant of $8.8 million from the U.S. National Cancer Institute to evaluate the public-health impact of government policies to regulate tobacco products, including e-cigarettes and other vaporized nicotine products.  

The CMHR recently completed its first “FRIENDS for Life” program.  This is an empirically supported group treatment, designed to build resilience and reduce anxiety in school-aged children, ages 8 through 11.

The CMHR would like to congratulate Dr. Lynette Eulette, Clinical Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Psychology, on her recent election to the role of College Council President of the College of Psychologists of Ontario.  The Council is the governing body of the profession’s regulatory body in the province and it sets policy and provides leadership and direction to the profession. 

Clinical graduate students were strong representatives of the Department of Psychology at this year’s National Annual Convention of the Canadian Psychological Association held earlier in June in Victoria, BC.

The CMHR was proud to host a visit by Catherine Fife, MPP (Kitchener—��ݮ��Ƶ).  CMHR Executive Director, Dr. David Moscovitch, and CMHR Director, Dr. Ian Nicholson, were joined in hosting Ms. Fife by St. Joseph’s Health Care London’s Operational Stress Injury Clinic (OSIC) Coordinator, Bev Vanderheide, and OSI Psychologist, Dr. Shannon Gifford.

Annually, an award valued at $750.00 is provided to a graduating undergraduate student enrolled in any program at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ. Selection are based on academic excellence, prior research experience related to child language development, and a demonstrated commitment to future postgraduate study in the area of child language development. No application is required. This fund is made possible by a donation from Knowledge in Development Inc.

This year, the award was given to two recipients.

While we may think of some people are consistently wise, we actually demonstrate different levels of wisdom from one situation to the next, and factors such as whether we are alone or with friends can affect it, according to new research from the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ.

Part of the $15 million study, which will be led by MUSC Hollings Cancer Center over the next five years, will look into the impact of government policy on vaporized nicotine products, such as e-cigarettes.

Katelyn Rowe, an honours student in Psychology (supervised by Dr. Katherine White) will be awarded the Alumni Gold Medal at the spring Convocation.  This is the award for the top graduating student in all of Arts.

Katlyn also will receive the Psychology Department's Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement.
