Submission of the Master's Research Paper

MASc Students Completing the Masters Research Paper (MRP)

Note: When preparing for the submission of your Master’s Research Paper, please be aware of the possible impacts graduating can have on any funding you receive from the University and external funders (i.e., OGS, Tri-council) as well as study permits.ÌýPlease consult with the appropriate resources prior to selecting a date to submit (e.g., supervisor, graduate advisor, GSPA, your award holder's guide for your OGS or tri-council award)".

You are required to have two readers for a Master's Research Paper – your supervisor and one other reader. The second reader doesn't have to be from your research area as long as the reader is from one of Psychology's six research areas (e.g. a Cognitive MA student could have a reader from the Social Psychology area). For those students with a co-supervisor, the second reader will be the co-supervisor. Once both your readers have approved your research paper and are prepared to sign off on it, you must let the Administrative Coordinator, Graduate Studies know the following, preferably by email:

  • the title of your Master’s Research Paper,
  • your supervisor’s name,
  • the name of your other reader.

When the Graduate Coordinator receives this information, a form will be circulated to your supervisor and reader for their signatures. Once all the necessary signatures have been collected, including the Graduate Officer's, the Graduate Coordinator will send the form to the Associate Dean's office.Ìý

The department no longer requires the submission of hard-bound copies of Master’s Research Papers.

You have now completed your degree requirements, provided that all of your grades have been submitted for the current term and your milestones are complete. The Graduate Coordinator will send a degree completion form to GSPA.

In the meantime, approximately one month prior to the completion of your degree requirements, you will apply to graduate in Quest. Note that the Expected Graduation Term from the Quest drop down list is the term in which you will be completing your degree requirements and not the term you will be convocating. Please send the Graduate Coordinator an emailÌýinforming her that you have submitted the form online.Ìý It's helpful to know that you have taken this next step.ÌýÌý

It is highly recommended that you contact the Graduate Coordinator before you leave campus for the final time. It never hurts to make sure that you have completed all the necessary forms.

Those that degree complete:

  • September 1 – April 30Ìýwill be eligible for spring Convocation
  • May 1 – August 31Ìýwill be eligible forÌýfall Convocation

Note:ÌýDegree complete means that your readers have signed off on your Masters Program Completion form, you have applied to graduate in Quest for the appropriate term* and your apply to graduate has been approved by the Graduate Coordinator.Ìý

*If your degree completion takes place over the transition of terms, it's important to note that you should apply to graduate in the term that your readers are signing off on the form. (Example: Your readers sign the Masters Program Completion form on April 27th, you would apply to graduate in the winter term. If your readers sign the Masters Program Completion form on May 6th, you would apply to graduate in the spring term.)
