Academics
- Use the word 鈥渇aculty鈥� only when referring to one of the University鈥檚 six faculties.
- Use the word 鈥減rofessor鈥� when referring to a faculty member.听
- Use the term high school, not secondary school.听
- Use the term international student, not foreign student.听
- Use first year, second year, etc., not year one,
year two, etc.听
- For admission requirements, use the forms Grade 12
U or M courses, U-level courses, and M-level courses.
Admissions
Admissions versus admission
Admissions should refer to the process or department and should be a noun.
Example: Staff can respond to inquiries about admissions.
Usually,听when you use a noun as an adjective, it should be singular.
Example: admission process, admission committee, admission requirements.
Offer听of Admission
Capitalize Offer of Admission when it refers to the student鈥檚 offer from 蓝莓视频. Otherwise, for generic references, use lower case.
Example: 鈥淵ou will receive your Offer of Admission from the University of 蓝莓视频 by May听30.听If you have accepted an offer of admission from another university, you have until June听2听to change your mind.鈥�
University colleges and schools
Refer to the听spelling and听misused听words section for proper names.听
Refer to听Renison听University College, Conrad Grebel University College, St. Jerome鈥檚 University, and St.鈥疨aul鈥檚 University College as the University Colleges.
Residences
For residences, use the term main campus to refer to the the University Colleges and the student villages; use the term northwest campus to refer to the Columbia Lake Townhouses.
