When writing about topics related to convocation, make sure you use and spell the following terms properly.
Graduation versus convocation
- Graduation is the term used to acknowledge that you have met your degree requirements and you have been approved by Senate to graduate from the program.
- Convocation refers to the ceremony where the chancellor confers the degree. The word convocation is not capitalized unless used in the event title (e.g., Fall 2019 Convocation).
Graduand versus graduate
- Graduand is the term used to address a student who is about to graduate or receive a degree.
- A graduate is a student who has received a degree or diploma.
Honour versus honor
Spell 鈥渉onour鈥� and 鈥渉onourable鈥� (with a 鈥渦鈥�) and 鈥渉onorand鈥� and 鈥渉onorary鈥� (no 鈥渦鈥�).
