United College is pleased to announce the completion of recent upgrades to the Music Room, a creative space designed to support student expression, collaboration, and community.

Led by Principal Rick Myers, the enhancements include a fresh coat of paint, new carpeting, and an expanded collection of musical instruments. Students now have access to an electronic drum kit, a set of 14 hand drums, a keyboard, two bass guitars, three electric guitars, and five acoustic guitars available for group lessons and personal use.

One wall has also been painted in optical blue, transforming part of the room into a functional blue screen for video and podcast production. The room is also equipped with professional lighting, microphones, and cameras, giving students the tools they need to create high-quality digital media content.

"This space has been a special priority for me," says Principal Myers. "Many of our students are accomplished musicians. As United College is their home, we want to ensure they have a place to enjoy and further develop their musical skills." While there are still plans to upgrade the keyboard, he notes that the room is now "relatively complete."

Steve Prentice, Director of ݮƵ, sees the podcasting capabilities as a valuable addition.

“Students are incorporating digital media in new and interesting ways, whether for personal projects, coursework, or to explore entrepreneurial ideas. I’m excited to see how this space evolves and what content is created as a result.”

Student response has been overwhelmingly positive. Liam McCrory, a Planning student and drummer, shared: “It’s great to have a facility like this right here in the College. Students who’ve seen it are surprised by just how much equipment there is.”

The upgraded Music Room reflects United College’s ongoing commitment to supporting creativity and providing meaningful, student-centered spaces on campus.
