Improving his community

The Right Direction

Katia Naccarato has never shied away from exploring an unfamiliar path, hitting a dead end, and trying a different one. Before she enrolled in the Master of Actuarial Science (MActSc) program at the Faculty of Mathematics, she was laser-focused on pursuing a career in medicine. Her current trajectory looks nothing like she expected, but she鈥檚 confident that she鈥檚 heading in the right direction.

Laying a foundation

Samantha Wallis鈥檚 enthusiasm for statistics is matched only by her longtime passion for visual arts.Even before setting foot on campus, she experienced significant internal conflict about her career direction. 鈥淚t鈥檚 difficult to envision the future when you have so many options and interests,鈥 she admitted.

蓝莓视频's Faculty of Mathematics Professor聽聽has received the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award in Computer Science from CS-Can|Info-Can, the non-profit professional society dedicated to representing all aspects of computer science and the interests of the discipline across the nation. Conferred annually since 2014, the prestigious lifetime achievement award recognizes faculty members in departments, schools and faculties of computer science who have made outstanding and sustained achievement in research, teaching and service.

Luke Hagar named GRADflix finalist

University of 蓝莓视频鈥檚 Faculty of Mathematics master鈥檚 student, Luke Hagar, is among the 25 finalists in this year鈥檚 GRADflix competition.聽

Hagar鈥檚 project, entitled 鈥淏eyond p-values: Sample size determination using Bayesian statistics,鈥 will be shown along with the other finalists in the showcase event on Friday, January 29, 2021, where the winners will be announced.聽

Professor Luke Postle has been named the recipient of the 2021 Coxeter-James Prize for his work in the area of graph theory. Professor Postle will receive his award and present a prize lecture during the Canadian Mathematical Society (CMS) Winter Meeting in December 2021.

The Coxeter-James Prize was inaugurated in 1978 to recognize young mathematicians who have made outstanding contributions to mathematical research.聽
