The Association for Computing Machinery has named Cheriton School of Computer Science Professor  a Distinguished Member for his outstanding scientific contributions to computing.

A new collaboration centre on campus is the next stage in a long-term research partnership between the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ and National Research Council of Canada (NRC).

Joy Jiang, a PhD graduate from the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, has been named one of Forbes’s “30 Under 30” for health care in this year’s “30 Under 30” rankings.

The Faculty of Mathematics helped save thousands of liters of water and hundreds of pounds of carbon this November through its “Meatless Math Mondays” campaign. The initiative, which aimed to increase environmental health and sustainability within the Faculty, encouraged students, staff, faculty, and post-docs to choose meatless options once a week to decrease their environmental impact.

Rick Perche (His full last name is “Rick Perche,” but he uses “Rick” colloquially as a first name among colleagues and friends) is a PhD candidate in Quantum Information at ��ݮ��Ƶ, affiliated with the Institute of Quantum Computing (IQC) and the Perimeter Institute (PI). This year, he won a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, Canada’s most prestigious PhD scholarship, for his academic excellence, research potential, and leadership.

Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada for Statistics Canada, was the keynote speaker at the Fall Industry Day on Monday, hosted by the ��ݮ��Ƶ Artificial Intelligence Institute (��ݮ��Ƶ.AI) and Communitech.

Dr. Aukosh Jagannath, assistant professor of Statistics and Actuarial Science and Applied Mathematics at the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ, has won a prestigious Outstanding Paper award at NeurIPS 2022. NeurIPS, short for Neural Information Processing Systems, is the foremost international conference for research on AI and Machine Learning.

Both finalist teams that included students from the Faculty of Math – AFAIK and RelayMD – won top prizes at the Velocity 5K finals yesterday afternoon.

On November 16, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $15 million in funding for the University of ��ݮ��Ƶ’s Faculties of Mathematics and Environment to work with Indonesian partners on climate-change adaptation and mitigation strategies in the country.
