On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, voting members of the Faculty Association (FAUW) will be asked to vote to ratify a revised Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between FAUW and University of ݮƵ. These revisions are necessary following the joint approval of the mediated changes to Policies 76 and 77, announced December 6, 2023.

Voting will close at 12 p.m. EST on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

The Faculty Association and Staff Association have teamed up to print and distribute more than 5,000 pride flag stickers to employees. Posting your sticker somewhere visible in your workspace is one small way to show your support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the wake of the hate attacks of June 28 targeting that community. We hope that thousands of pride stickers displayed all over our four campuses will help send the message that all members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community belong at ݮƵ.

Each unit will get a package of flags to distribute amongst staff and faculty, so talk to whoever handles the mail for your department!

The FAUW Equity Committee is currently seeking nominations for the 2023 Equity & Inclusivity Award.

Inaugurated in 2012, the Equity & Inclusivity Award recognizes a member, group, or affiliate of the University of ݮƵ community. The award is meant to further support individuals or groups who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to improving equity, inclusivity, and/or diversity at the University of ݮƵ.

We've got a new website!

As you can see, we have a new website! We've moved into the latest version of the ݮƵ Content Management System and taken the opportunity to move things around in a way that we hope works better for members. Some of the changes include:

As of January 16, 2023, FAUW and the administration have completed the first two steps of our “path forward” for policies 76 (Faculty Appointments) and 77 (Tenure and Promotion of Faculty Members)—exchanging policy drafts and four meetings of a policy drafting committee —and are beginning mediation (step three).

Education sector solidarity

The Ontario government introduced legislation this week (Bill 28) that will force a contract on CUPE’s 55,000 education workers in the Ontario School Board Council of Unions (OSBCU) and prevent a legal strike that was to start Friday. These workers earn $39,000 per year on average, and 51 per cent of them work another job to make ends meet. They are calling on the Ford government to hire more education workers to support all students, and to increase their wages, as they are the lowest-paid employees in the sector.
