Professional registration

For accreditation purposes, faculty teaching engineering science and/or engineering design courses must be registered as a professional engineer in Canada. Obtaining and maintaining professional licensure ensures that your home department will be awarded accreditation units (AUs) for engineering science and engineering design. This is critical in maintaining accredited program status as laid out by the .ÌýAll forms of engineering licensure in Canada are considered acceptable.

Registration pathways

A Ìýcan be completed to see eligibility for licensure

  • :Ìýchoose the "Standard Scope Limited License-University Faculty" option if teaching/research is the majority of your work experience

  • ÌýNote: once notified, the applicant is given two years to write and pass the exam (~10 sittings) before the file is closed. Refer to for complete exam information.
  • Bridging Pilot Program: those with P.L.Eng. who meet additional criteria can apply to bridge to a professional engineer (P.Eng.) licence. See Ìýfor moreÌýdetails.

Effective May 15, 2023

  1. Individuals must meet academic/experience qualifications outlined in the and set out in the regulations at the time they apply.

  2. EIT program will no longer be available to new applicants; work experience must be acquired before applying.

If you did not complete an undergraduate engineering program that is accredited in Canada then please refer to EGBC.

If eligible, PEO will send application link (application/supporting documents to be submitted electronically; the PEO will not accept anything via regular mail/courier). Note: submissions of documents is done in stages as indicated on the .

  • the PEO CBAÌýis a variant of the EGBC CBA,Ìýthis means that any expertise developed is applicable to both PEO and EGBC
