Dr. David Clausi, a professor in the Department of Systems Design Engineering and Associate Dean - Research and External Partnerships for the Faculty of Engineering, has been appointed as a University Research Chair.

The award recognizes researchers who have a distinguished record of accomplishments and a continued outstanding trajectory of excellence in research and scholarship, as well as research leadership.

An interdisciplinary research team at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ isÌý working to improve treatment adherence for a children’s eye condition with the help of a social robot.ÌýÌý

Dr. Kerstin Dautenhahn, a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Ali Yamini (MASc ‘22, electrical and computer engineering) joined colleagues with backgrounds in optometry and psychology to develop this novel treatment for ‘lazy eye’.ÌýÌýÌý

This June, members of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering took home three awards from the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Canada Annual Conference.

There were awards for the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµâ€™s ITE student chapter and a scholarship for undergraduate Adriana Ceric (BASc ‘26, civil engineering).

À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering alumni Inderjit Takk (BASc ‘98, systems design engineering) and Stephanie Thompson (BASc ‘01, chemical engineering) joined Linda Archer Cornfield (LLD ’24), in an inspiring discussion moderated by Dr. Mary Wells, dean of the Faculty of Engineering.Ìý

Dr. Nadine Ibrahim, a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been inducted as Fellow of the Canadian Engineering Education Association – Association Canadienne de l’éducation en génie (CEEA-ACÉG).

She was
also elected as president of the organization, having previously served as vice-president.

At the recent spring convocation, the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ awarded David J. Cornfield and Linda Archer Cornfield with honorary doctorates.ÌýÌý

Following successful careers at Microsoft, David (BASc, ‘85, systems design engineering) and Linda chose to pursue their shared interests and passion for systems thinking to find pragmatic, sustainable approaches to better stewardship of the earth.Ìý

Two teams of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering students received first prize in the prestigious ÌýSociety for Manufacturing Engineers Digital Manufacturing Challenge.

Shahed Saleh (BASc mechatronics engineering) and Joy He (BASc systems design engineering) were overall winners of the Undergraduate competition, while Xianchen Ouyang and Lubin Wang were first in the Graduate category.

Several members and former members of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering received awards and recognition this June.

Dr. Giovanni Cascante, Dr. Liping Fu
, and Dr. Susan Tighe were honoured at the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) Annual Conference. Dr. Reinhold Schuster was presented with an award at the 2024 Cold-Formed Steel Engineers Institute (CFSEI) Expo.

Ujwal Zore, a graduate student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, has been awarded the Michael R. Provart Environmental Award by the Ontario Water Works Association.

The award recognizes an Ontario university student, graduate or undergraduate, for excellence in presenting research at Ontario’s Water Conference and Trade Show.Ìý

A team of five Indigenous students from À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering participated in the First Nations Launch, an annual high-power rocket competition sponsored by NASA’s Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (WSGC), designed to provide a unique aerospace learning experience.ÌýÌý

It was the team’s first time taking part in the competition which involved designing, building and launching a high-powered model rocket carrying cargo to an apogee of 2000 feet.Ìý
