Amir KhajepourAmir Khajepour, a À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ mechanical and mechatronics engineering professor and the Canada Research Chair in Mechatronic Vehicle Systems, received a prestigiousÌýEngineering MedalÌýÌý– Research and Development from the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers at its awards’ gala. The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) announced that the Automotive Partnership Canada program will provide $4.9 million in support of three projects being driven by Kaan Inal, Michael Worswick and Kyle Daun, all À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ mechanical and mechatronics professors who are part of WatCAR, the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµâ€™s Centre for Automotive Research.Ìý

Engineering honours its own

The winners of this year's À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering awards were honoured at the annual Faculty of Engineering dinner held on October 10.

The Faculty’s Teaching Excellence Award recognizes outstanding teaching and commitment to the enrichment of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering education. This year’s deserving recipients are David Brush of civil and environmental engineering, Keith Hipel of systems design engineering, and David Wang of electrical and computer engineering.

Samir Elhedhli is the winner of the 2013 Canadian Operations Research Society (CORS) Service Award, which recognizes members of the society who have made outstanding contributions of time and service to it. The À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Management Sciences ProfessorÌýwas President of the society for the 2011-2012 year. He also served as a CORS CouncillorÌýfrom 2007 to 2009, the Education Chair from 2007 to 2010 andÌýas the Program Chair for the 2012 Joint CORS/MOPGP Conference held in Niagara Falls.

Two À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Engineering professors have been appointed to senior university positions.ÌýÌýFlora Ng, a chemical engineering professor and a University Professor,ÌýbecameÌýchair of the University Appointments Review Committee as of June 1, 2013.ÌýÌýHer appointment is for a three-year term.Ìý Beth Jewkes, a management sciences professor andÌýa past chair of the management sciences department, willÌýbecome the university's associate provost, resources as ofÌýAugust 1, 2013.

In March, the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ hosted theÌý3 Minute Thesis Competition (3MT) - a university-wide competition providing graduate students the opportunity to share their research with a non-specialist audience in three minutes with one static slide. Cash prizes were at stake, and the potential to advance and participate in the provincial finals held at Queen’s University.
