Catherine
Burns,
a
systems
design
engineering
professor,
is
the
new
Canada
Research
Chair
(CRC)
in
Human
Factors
in
Healthcare
Systems.Â
Burns, who is the executive director of the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµâ€™s Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology, will receive $1.4 million over seven years to develop human-centred approaches to the design and implementation of advanced health care technologies.
Monica Emelko, a civil and environmental engineering professor, is the first Canada Research Chair in Water Science, Technology and Policy.
She will be awarded $1.4 million over seven years for research into ensuring water security in Canada. Â
Burns and Emelko were among nine across the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ campus named new or renewing chairs in a December 16 announcement by the federal government, which marked the 20th anniversary of the CRC program. [Full story]
