A À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering graduate student who restarted her academic journey in Canada after the war in Ukraine has been recognized internationally for her research in AI-powered sports analytics.

Kseniia Buzko arrived at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ through a summer program for displaced Ukrainian students, later completing her undergraduate degree with top marks and joining the Department of Systems Design Engineering's as a master’s student.

Her award-winning research project, CP-Hockey, improves action recognition in hockey broadcasts by helping AI models better account for player movement, equipment and context. Her work earned Best Paper at the Linköping Hockey Analytics Conference in Sweden last month.

Beyond academics, Buzko says À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ has become a place of belonging,  a supportive community where she’s built friendships and found space to thrive.
