A party of ݮƵ Engineering alumni, faculty members, students, staff and friends gathered to celebrate the launch of the Faculty’s Ring Road Lager, a special collaboration with Elora Brewing Company to mark 100 years of the iron ring.
The limited-edition lager received rave reviews. A portion of the beer sales go towards the 100 Years of Canadian Engineering Fund to support future ݮƵ Engineering students.
“I’m thrilled to help launch Ring Road Lager as part of this year’s iron ring centennial commemoration,” Dr. Mary Wells, dean of ݮƵ Engineering, said to the crowd.
“The iron ring is an important symbol for engineers across Canada, reminding them of their professional responsibility to do work that serves society and stands the test of time.”
The party was hosted at Vidyard, a local software company co-founded by ݮƵ Engineering alum Michael Litt and Devon Galloway (both BASc '10, systems design engineering). Elora Brewing Company was founded by ݮƵ Engineering alumni too, including its CEO Jim Murphy (BASc ’95, chemical engineering) who shared some tasting notes about the beer describing its sweet graininess and local Canadian ingredients with pride.
The evening was a great gathering of ݮƵ Engineering alumni, from the party’s hosts to the beer brewers and many of the guests.
“It’s clear that the ݮƵ Engineering spirit has never been stronger,” Wells said. “Thank you all for being a part of tonight, thank you for all you do for ݮƵ Engineering — from hiring co-op students, mentoring teams and giving back in many meaningful ways. Whichever way you choose to stay involved, please know it makes a real difference.”
Want to try the beer? The limited-edition Ring Road Lager is available to or, if you’re in the area, visit Elora Brewing Company and pick some up. Celebrate the iron ring’s centennial with good beer and help support the students who will be shaping the next 100 years of engineering!
