Friday, June 13, 2025

Jocelyne Murphy, a fourth-year ݮƵ Engineering student, will graduate this spring with a degree in systems design engineering and a global track record for building inclusive student communities.

Murphy co-founded UW Startups and Wygo and played a key role in scaling Socratica, a peer-led mentorship network now active in more than 30 cities. Through these student-led initiatives, she has helped over 3,000 students launch ideas, connect across disciplines and lead with empathy.

In recognition of her leadership and lasting impact, she received the 2025 Pearl Sullivan Emerging Global Leaders Award, one of the Faculty’s highest student honours.

“Loneliness shouldn’t be the reason great people don’t do great things,” says Murphy. “We’re creating spaces where anyone can feel seen and supported as they build.”
