Paul Fieguth, chair of systems design engineering, is being recognized with a Distinguished Teacher Award for his strong support of students bothinside and outside the classroom.
Fieguth is described by his students as being “passionate, open and enthusiastic,” with the goal of “truly helping
Additionally, students appreciate how he incorporates relevant applications of their field into real-world problems in his lessons.
Fieguth is noted by his students for “always trying to connect concepts to the outside worldin order to cement the ideas in our mindsand to show the importance of them.”
He is known for supporting students with their project workand continuing to offer them guidance when they are no longer his students.
Fieguthbegan a two-year term as vice-dean of ݮƵ Engineering at the beginning of March. He served as the associate chair of undergraduate studies for the Faculty from 2005 to 2009 and has been involved in the development of its undergraduate curriculum. He has been recognized with other awards in graduate supervision and teaching excellence.
Fieguth, one of four recipients of this year’s Distinguished Teacher Award,will be officially recognized at Spring Convocation in June. The other honorees areSteve Balaban andAndrew Houston, both from the Faculty of Arts, and Robin Cohen from the Faculty ofMathematics.
