Alumni return to campus to celebrate reunion!

Monday, June 9, 2025

The University of ݮƵ’s Faculty of Engineering hosted a lively reunion event welcoming alumni from across generations back to campus to reconnect and relive their studentdays.

The engineering grads came together for a full day of activities that included a patio party, the popular back-to-the-classroom lecture with Dr. Larry Smith, drinks at POETS, the iron ring renewal ceremony and adinner party.

Reunion kicked off on Friday, June 6 with a special screening of Rock This Town, a documentary produced by ݮƵ Arts alum Betty Anne Keller about KW'sexciting history of rock music concerts in the 1960’s and 1970’s. The main activities on Saturday, June 7 were held in and around Engineering 7 and Engineering 5 buildings, both new facilities for many of the older alumni who were visibly impressed. From guided tours to social mixers and a barbeque lunch, people delighted in each other’s company and enjoyed catching up with classmates as they revisited their old haunts.

At this year’s reunion lecture with the dean, Dr. Mary Wells lauded alumni for their role in shaping ݮƵ Engineering’s growing success.

“As esteemed alumni, you are our best ambassadors,” Wells said. “Your achievements and successes strengthen the reputation of our Faculty and by keeping our reputation strong, we ensure that the value of your degree stays strong.”

To mark this year’s 100thanniversary of the iron ring, the Poet Laureate of Dublin, California and ݮƵ Engineering alum James Morehead (BASc ’90, computer engineering), read his poem The Binding of an Iron Ring at the iron ring renewal ceremony. For many, it was a moving tribute to a formative moment in their lives.

Another highlight was the Ring Road Lager, a limited-edition craft beer brewed by alum-founded Elora Brewing Company inhonour of the iron ring centennial. Alumni quaffed it happily and stocked up on their six-packs for a thirsty summer ahead.

It was a busy, fun-filled day, and we're already looking forward to welcoming even more alumni back to campus next year.

Don’t miss next year’s reunion on June 5 & 6, 2026 — Save the Date!
