À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Chapter 2025 Technovation Team Named Regional Honoree for North America!

Earlier this summer, four teams from À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Region and UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ WiCS’ Technovation program advanced to the semi-finals in Canada in the 2025 Technovation Girls Challenge. is an international 12-week program with regional chapters that equips girls and gender diverse youth, including transgender, non-binary, and gender-fluid individuals ages 10 to 18 with problem-solving, leadership and coding skills to become the next generation of tech entrepreneurs and leaders.

We are overjoyed to announce that one of our junior Technovation teams from the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Chapter have not only made it to the semi-finals, but also was named the Regional Honoree for all of North America! This is an incredible accomplishment out of 34 teams that submitted to the Junior division from Canada, and the 9 semi-finalists from the US. Senior Division Semi-Finalist

Team Project Fish

Our semi-finalist from the Senior Division in À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ is making strides in personal health advancement with their Around 800 million people in the world have medical allergies, which are difficult to manage as pharmaceutical drug allergens commonly have long, hard to remember names. Team Project Fish provides a clear solution to the challenge of finding allergen-free pharmaceuticals through koiCare. Unique features including a UPC barcode scanner creates easy access to detailed ingredient lists and information on Canadian pharmaceutical products, identifying potential allergens and reducing the risk of allergic reactions. KoiCare empowers individuals to make informed, safe choices when selecting medications, and promotes personal well-being through initiatives which raise awareness and support for allergy research and ocean conservation efforts.  Watch .

Beginner Division Semi-Finalist

The Masterminds

Our beginner division semi-finalists amazed the judges with their idea and their code. Balance Beam is designed to empower senior citizens facing challenges related to memory, mobility, safety, and social connection. This user-friendly app provides medication and appointment reminders, brain-stimulating games, and a one-tap emergency SOS feature with location sharing. Balance Beam promotes independence and well-being for older adults, while also providing peace of mind for their families.

Junior Division Semi-Finalists

Team Generation Linkers (North America Regional Honouree!)

Participating in Technovation for a second year (and after winning the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ RPE last year too!), Generation Linkers has won the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Regional Pitch Event, moved on to the semi-finals, and was named Regional Honouree for North America! Te team challenged themselves by selecting and learning Python for the backend and PyQt6 for the frontend of their app. This project greatly improved their debugging and troubleshooting skills as they developed key features like login/signup, user profiles, messaging, and user connections. Beyond coding, the team gained crucial experience in business planning, surveying users, conducting interviews, and iteratively improving the app based on feedback. Watch .

Team Sophira

Another amazing team that won our À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Pitch Event and went to the semi-finals, team Sophira is taking steps to protect us in an increasingly digital world. Nothing is worse than the realization that you have been scammed, especially when you are tricked into giving up personal information or even money. Cybercrime directly affects countless KW citizens every single day. Nowadays, as technology is always changing and improving, cyberattack attempts can be harder to recognize and defend against. Team Sophira's solution to this common problem is a unique predictive AI Model that tells you if a message you received is a scam as well as how to proceed without getting hacked. Watch .

About Technovation Girls À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ

Technovation Girls À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ, a local chapter in À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ Region, was established in 2018 by Jo Atlee, Professor and Director of Women in Computer Science at the Cheriton School of Computer Science, to help address the gender gap in tech. The program is managed by Hillary Matt, Women in Computer Science Outreach Coordinator.
