Supportive environments for active living and healthy eating

What does this priority area mean?

  • There is much we know about health status of students at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ through our National College Health Assessment Data (NACA). However, there is very limited information available about our employees at UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.
  • While active living and healthy eating require very distinct interventions and partners, the Wellness Collaborative want to ensure that this work aligns with other cross campus-initiatives, such as the Environmental Sustainability Strategy.
  • For both healthy eating and active living, the we want to ensure that we create supportive environments so that the onus does not fall completely on each individual at UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ. Supportive environments mean that we need to develop accessible, sustainable and equitable programs and policies for healthy eating and active living, while foster awareness, knowledge and skills.

Why is this important at UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ?

  • Eight percent of UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ students reported usually eating five or more servings of fruits/vegetables per day in, NCHA 2019
  • 16 percent of UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ students reported >150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity in at least ten minute bouts in the past seven days, NCHA 2019Â
