Research awards for undergraduate students
AFPC and CSPS student research poster awards
Each year, undergraduate students engaged in research within the School of Pharmacy are invited to participate in the School of Pharmacy Poster Competition. This internal event serves to identify and nominate candidates for two national awards:
-
AFPC/CPPE Student Research Poster Award
-
CSPS Undergraduate Student Poster Award
Nominees are selected based on the quality and impact of their research presentations. Eligibility for each award is determined by the respective organization’s criteria.
Details regarding the competition are typically distributed at the beginning of the winter term.
Students seeking further information about these awards are encouraged to consult the official websites of the sponsoring organizations:
Faculty of Science Foundation Senior Undergraduate Science Research Award
Students who complete a PHARM 400/401 project are eligible for this award that recognizes outstanding research outcomes by senior undergraduate students within the Faculty of Science.
One winner from the School will be selected per academic year from among eligible students.Ìý Refer to the Faculty of Science Foundation for details.
NSERC USRA
Undergraduate students in non-professional degree programs (from 2B term onward) are invited to apply for the Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA), offered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC). This competitive award provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience by working full-time on a supervised research project within the School of Pharmacy.
Students must secure supervision from an eligible faculty member prior to applying. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact potential research supervisors directly to discuss project opportunities and supervision availability.
The School of Pharmacy typically awards two USRAs per year, subject to funding and supervisor availability. Awards may be held during the Spring, Fall, or Winter terms. The primary application deadline for all terms is February 28. If awards remain available, additional applications may be accepted until July 31 (for Fall or Winter terms) and October 31 (for Winter term only).
Preference is given to students who demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a research-focused career, maintain an academic average of 80% or higher, and are enrolled in the co-operative education program at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.
For full eligibility criteria and application details, students are encouraged to consult the Office of Research website for full details.
Participation in the USRA program offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to innovative research while developing essential skills for future academic and professional pursuits.
