As a case manager, Heather works with patients who’ve been in and out of hospital at least three times in a year. Her work is unusual for a pharmacist: typically, case managers are nurses or social workers, but Heather’s prior experience as a hospital pharmacist helps her collaborate with patients and their healthcare team to identify why hospitalizations occur and plan to prevent them.

Greg Becotte is a pharmacist at the Pier Health Resource Center in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES). The DTES is a neighbourhood notorious for high rates of poverty, mental illness, crime, and infectious disease.

On Sunday March 12, the ��ݮ��Ƶ Pharmacy hockey team and loyal fans travelled to Toronto for the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) Cup. The annual face off against the University of Toronto Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy is one of several events students organize during Pharmacist Awareness Month.

Owning your own pharmacy is a hefty responsibility, but for Angela the hard work and long hours are both familiar and rewarding. Angela and her sister Gina grew up in and out of Preston Medical Pharmacy in Cambridge.

“Cancer is a scary diagnosis,” says alumnus Michael Collins. “Not only do oncology pharmacists require complex therapeutic knowledge, we also require the soft skills needed to empathize in such a difficult part of a cancer patient’s life.”

Alumni Lindsay Bennett is a clinical pharmacist at Royal Ottawa Mental Health Center where she supports patients with substance abuse issues and psychiatric conditions like schizophrenia and mood disorders.

Class of 2011 alumni Marc-André Gravel is the Executive Director of the Centre de santé communautaire de Kapuskasing et région, a Community Health Centre located in northern Ontario.

Janet McDougall is one of the earliest supporters of the School of Pharmacy. Her involvement began with a substantial donation to the building campaign and has continued in the Donald J. and Kathleen D. McDougall Graduate Scholarship which she established to recognize outstanding graduate research and community spirit. 

School of Pharmacy professor Nancy Waite is one of four authors of an award winning journal article.

Every Friday, you’ll find Khrystine (Rx2018) at Wilfrid Laurier Sports Complex helping athletes with intellectual disabilities improve their swimming skills. She’s an assistant swim coach with Special Olympics Ontario, a non-profit, charitable organization that provides sports training and competitions for those with intellectual disabilities.
