Robin WenRobin Wen, a student who recently finished a program in mathematical physics, is this year’s recipient of the Alumni Gold Medal for the Faculty of Mathematics.

The award is administered through Alumni Relations and goes to an outstanding student with top-notch grades and academic potential.

One undergraduate student from each of the university’s six faculties receives the award at spring convocation.

A team of two math faculty members has won the Excellence in Online Course Design award for the 2021-22 academic year.

Amanda Garcia and Burcu Karabina are teaching faculty with the Math Undergraduate Office and were nominated for their work designing the online course MATH 237: Calculus 3 for Honours Mathematics.

A recent graduate of the Department of Combinatorics and Optimization has been awarded this year’s Governor General’s Gold Medal at the master’s level.

The award is among the most prestigious for students, with only one at the master’s level and one at the PhD level for the entire university.

Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs administers the annual award, with each faculty allowed to nominate a single PhD and a single master’s candidate.

Ruodu Wang Named Fellow of IMS

Ruodu Wang

Ruodu Wang, University Research Chair and Sunlife Research Fellow in the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, has been named Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS).

Wang received the award for significant contributions to statistics and applied probability in operations research, risk management, and actuarial science; and highly influential interdisciplinary research bridging statistics and probability.
