You’ve discovered your dream major in recreation and now you’re ready to apply. Here’s what you need to know about the process.

First, some background

Recreation and Leisure Studies is home to three majors:

• Sport and Recreation Management
• Therapeutic Recreation
• Recreation, Leadership, and Health

While these majors differ in their focus, they all fall under the umbrella of Recreation and Leisure Studies! Why? Because they share a common goal of making the world a happier, healthier place through recreation and leisure programs, businesses, events, and services.

Though each of the majors has its own courses and degree requirements, you’ll get to know the students outside your major through some common courses, like REC 120 Experience Design and Delivery.

Universities may use some unfamiliar terminology. Here are a few helpful definitions.

Entry program: the program you will select on the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre (OUAC) website when starting your application.

Major: the subject that’s the main area of focus for your degree. For Recreation and Leisure Studies, you’ll choose your major right when you apply.

So, you’re looking for your chosen recreation major on the OUAC programs list and you can’t find it. What’s going on? Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. When you apply, you’ll select Recreation and Leisure Studies from the program list.
2. Once you choose Recreation and Leisure Studies as your program, you’ll be able to select your major from the “Subject of Major Interest” drop-down menu.
3. If you’re admitted (hooray!), your Offer of Admission will say Recreation and Leisure Studies. Don’t fret! We’ll automatically enroll you in your chosen major once you accept your offer.
4. You’ll start specializing in your major right in first year!
