Trans and Non-Binary Equity Strategy
The Trans and Non-Binary Equity strategy is rooted in our commitment to foster a campus where everyone—regardless of gender identity or expression—can feel safe, affirmed, and fully included. It reflects what non-binary, transgender (trans), and queer members of our community have shared with us: their experiences, their concerns, and their hopes for real, lasting change.
The recommendations in this report come directly from those living these realities. Grounded in consultation and collaboration, the strategy outlines what’s needed to close the gaps, confront systemic barriers, and build an environment where 2SLGBTQIA+, including 2STNBGNC+,Ìýstudents and employees are supported—without exception or condition.
I want to acknowledge the dedicated efforts ofÌýourÌýofficeÌýin bringing this work to life—their coordination, care, and commitment were essential to the development of this strategy.Ìý
I want to thank Washington Silk, 2SLGBTQ+ Student Support Counsellor, Dr. Alex Pershai,ÌýAssociate Director, Equity, and Daniele Boland, EDI-R co-op student, for their leadership in this process. They carried out the consultations with respect, integrity, and accountability, and shaped a report that reflects both the urgency and the possibility of this work.
To our campus partners—thank you. Your willingness to listen, to reflect, and to act has been key in shaping this strategy.Ìý
This is work we all must do collectively—so that inclusion isn’t something we strive for in the future, but something people feel every day, in every corner of our campus.
