Engineering researchers at the University of ݮƵ have developed a revolutionary system for monitoring vital signs that could lead to improved detection and prevention of some cardiovascular issues, as well as greater independence for older adults.
Exceptional students and alumniwere honoured at the 2015 ݮƵ Engineering Awards Dinner held November 26.
Over 2,500 students received awards this year for everything from top marks, to extracurricular activities, such as leadership, community engagement and involvement in athletics.

Researchers at National Taiwan University have recognized the University ofݮƵas an impressive force amongCanada’s engineering institutions. ݮƵ Engineering ranked second in Canada in the 2015 Taiwan Ranking’s engineering field, and first for Chemical Engineering. The University of ݮƵ also ranked in Canada’s top five for the Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Mechanical Engineering subjects.
Electrical and computer engineering professorZhou Wang has won an Engineering Emmy® Award forhis co-creators of Structural Similarity (SSIM), a mathematical formula and computer algorithm that is now widely used throughout the television industry.
Electrical and Computer Engineering professor helped todevelopthe first source of on-demand single time-bin entangle photon pairs with no possibility of producing extra unwanted pairs. Reimer, who is part of ݮƵ's Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC), worked with a team of international researchers to complete the project.
ݮƵ Engineering grad Ibraheem Khan is praised for his contributions toCanada's economy in a news piece from CBC today. His company, Smarter Alloys, just announced that they will begin manufacturing prototypes at a ݮƵ facility, and is cited as a a "good example of growth" for Canada.

First year ݮƵ School of Architecture students takehome the three top prizes in the 2015 Annual Steel Structures Education Foundation Student Design Competition:
- Award of Excellence to Justin Ng and Tristan Sito
- Award of Merit to Christy Cheng and Shaina Coulter
- Award of Merit to Jane Hung, Winona Li and Sean Quach
In partnership with Christie Digital Systems, the paper “Auto-Calibration for Screen Correction and Point Cloud Generation” was honoured with theDistinguished Paper Award at the held inSan Josefrom May 31-June 5.
