A master’s student in chemical engineering took first place and the $750 top prize in a contest featuring 60-second videos of graduate students explaining their research.
Andrew Stella, whose research involves wearable sensors to protect firefighters, topped a field of 25 competitors at the annual GRADFlix Showcase sponsored by Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.
Two other grad students at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering also factored in the final results, with Ben Zhang of electrical and computer engineering taking third and $250 for a video on his work with sensors for autonomous vehicles, and Amy Tai of systems design engineering picking up the $250 Social Impact Award for her video on improved treatment for breast cancer.
Stella also won the $250 People’s Choice Award at the fifth annual event.
