Automated Trading 101

An automated trading system makes investment decisions, sends instructions to exchanges, and has profit (or loss) at the end of the day, all without human intervention. In this talk, you’ll learn how a computer could make investment decisions – and the basics of what happens when you try to trade a stock on an exchange.

Speakers:

Michelle Zhu was born in Montreal and grew up in California (sadly speaking no French). She came back to the East Coast to study CS at CMU. In college she interned with HRT twice, and then joined HRT as a Core Developer (SWE) back in August. When she's bored she does puzzle hunts and spends all her money.

Alice Chen is originally from Chicago, IL. She relocated to the East Coast to study CS at MIT. While at MIT she interned with HRT twice before joining as a full-time Core Developer in August 2024. She recently has begun to learn how to ski! 

Dana Barclay is originally from New Jersey. She has a BA in Sociology and an MBA from Stony Brook University in New York. She is HRT's Software Engineering Campus Recruiter and will complete four years with the firm in August! In her spare time she loves to play Dungeons and Dragons, both with fellow HRTers and her friends outside of work. 

Cindy Yang has been an Algo Developerat HRT for three years, where she works on researching and deploying mid-frequency strategies. She grew up in Chicago but has also lived abroad in Shanghai. She graduated with a Bachelor's and MEng in Computer Science and Engineering from MIT. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, painting, skiing, and exploring NYC neighborhoods.
