Innovation action

As we work on achieving financial sustainability, we know that there are many parts of our University that can benefit from review and reimagination. We’re known for innovation and thinking differently, so we’re using our strengths to revitalize the way we do things.

Our three-year plan to address our operating budget deficit includes leveraging internal expertise on a wide range of work across the institution that will amplify our strengths and improve efficiency. The Academic Innovation Working Group and the Innovation Action Group are composed of faculty and staff who have the insights and experience needed to guide this important work as we look for opportunities to streamline operations and reduce costs, while maintaining academic excellence.

Many of the challenges we and our peer institutions are facing are due to external pressures such as funding constraints, restrictions on domestic tuition rates, and uncertainties related to international enrolments. These pressures are expected to continue and we’ve engaged Nous Group and Nous Cubane, consultants that bring deep experience and insights into the Canadian post-secondary sector, to conduct internal reviews and data collection to help gather the information we need to inform our long-term strategy.
