World Wetlands Day (WWD) is celebrated each year on February 2^nd, which marks the day when the Convention on Wetlands was adopted in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran. The Convention is an international government agreement acknowledging the importance of wetlands and plays a central role in the wise use and conservation of these critical ecosystems. Calling all water entrepreneurs! AquaHacking is an innovative, multi-stage pitch competition challenging students to tackle water issues facing our Great Lakes. AquaHacking provides mentoring, a unique experience and financial support to help you bring your idea to life!

The annual UN World Water Day in À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ is on March 22, 2017. This year's theme is ,  exploring how we can use nature to overcome the water challenges of the 21st century.

Water Institute member Simron Singh, associate professor in À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ's School of Environment, Enterprise and Development, and his colleagues, are hosting a public panel on sustaining small islands in the context of global environmental change. The panel discussion will be followed by wine and cheese for participants.   

The Farvolden Lecture Series, hosted by À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, was initiated in 1996 as an annual celebration in honour of Dr. Robert Farvolden. The Lecture Series fosters interaction and communication between the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, the alumni of the hydrogeology program and the groundwater community at large.

Attend the AquaHacking semi-finals 

Join us on June 21, from 5-9 p.m. at the Centre for International Governance Innovation as aspiring water entrepreneurs pitch their solutions to problems facing Lake Erie. The five winning teams of the semi-finals will move on to compete in the final competition on September 13, 2017, where there's  available, in addition to access to local accelerators and mentors for winning teams.

 is a multi-stage hackathon with a focus on developing functional, marketable innovations to address Lake Erie’s water issues. Students with a passion for water, hackers, engineers, and other creative minds are invited to work together in teams over a 10 week period to develop technology that will positively impact Lake Erie.
