
All UW students and employees must complete mandatory health and safety training. Several important requirements are summarized below. Additional information is provided by theÌýSafety Office.
MEng Students
MEng students in SYDE must complete the following training within the first 4 weeks of their first term of enrolment:
- SO1001 Employee Safety Orientation
- SO1081 Workplace Violence
- SO2017 WHMIS 2015
- AODA - Accessibility Training
Students must provideÌýverificationÌýthat this training has been completed as indicated by the department each term.ÌýWhere training is incomplete, students may be restricted from participating in certain activities (e.g. lab sessions) and academic penalties may be applied.

All graduate students must complete the Graduate Academic Integrity Module (AIM) within the first 8 weeks of their program. Information can be found here.
Students interested in teaching assistantships (TA) must complete the Faculty of Engineering’s ExpecTAtions training course before they can hold a TA position. This training is offered once per term.

MASc and PhD Students
MASc and PhD students in SYDE must complete the following training within the first 4 weeks of their first term of enrolment, and before they are provided with keys/fobs to access offices/laboratories as applicable:
Your supervisor may require you to complete additional safety training depending on the nature of your research and specific lab requirements.
