Chinese proficiency preliminary competition held at Renison April 27

The 24th Chinese Bridge - Chinese Proficiency Preliminary Competition for University Students in Ontario and Manitoba was held successfully at Renison University College on Sunday April 27. 

The event was sponsored by the Center For Language Education and Cooperation and the Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto and hosted by China Studies Center at Renison University College.

Dr. Marc Jerry, President of Renison University College welcomed the candidates from different universities and their family members and friends, and the judges. He hoped to promote the diversity of language and culture education by hosting such events.

Mr. Weidong Luo, the Consul General, expressed his wish that students would use the key of Chinese language to open the doors of understanding China and the world.  Education consuls Ms. Renzhu Li and Ms. Ying Wang also attended the event. 

The theme for the competition was “One World, One Family” and the contests included speeches and talent shows.   

The first prize winner is Elizabeth Schnur, from University of ݮƵ.

Second prize winners are Matthew Garth and Aahil Mukada, from University of ݮƵ.

Third prize winners are Giada Amenta, from Toronto Metropolitan University, Sofia Guzma, from Mississauga Campus of University of Toronto, and Sophie Kim, from University of ݮƵ.

The Consulate General of China in Toronto will recommend winners to go to China and attend the world competition on behalf of Canada. Congratulations to each of the winners, and all participants!

This is the third time Renison has hosted the annual provincial competition. The Chinese language and culture office at Renison have organized our students to participate 12 times, and our students have won first prize honours eight times!
