On March 24, the department of Pure Mathematics held its annual Undergraduate Awards Tea, an event that celebrates the accomplishments of its remarkable undergraduate students.
The awards are given each year to faculty members across the University of ݮƵ who demonstrate excellence in teaching and research.
The award ($1000), which is given to up to four recipients annually, recognizes excellence in teaching by students, including intellectual vigour, skill in communication and presentation of subject matter, and concern for the needs of students.

On July 1st, we sadly had to say "so long" and "thank you" to Nancy Maloney who retired from the Pure Math grad coordinator position. Nancy had been with Pure Math for over 16 years and will definitely be missed. We wish you all the best for a long, healthy, and restful retirement, Nancy!

Pure Math Professor Alexandru (Andu) Nica is a recipient of this year's Faculty of Mathematics Distinction in Teaching Award.Up to two awards are given each year to teachers who have “consistently demonstrated outstanding pedagogical skills and a deep commitment to our students’ education.” Congratulations, Andu!

Congratulations to Pure Math/C&O student, Maria Esipova, a 2023 recipient of the Jessie W.H. Zou Memorial Award. The award was established by Computer Science professor Ming Li in honor of his late wife Jessie Wenhui Zou, with the aim of celebrating undergraduate research done by students now in their final year at ݮƵ. Maria shares this honour with Software Engineering student, Vikram Subramanian.
On March 1, 2023, Pure Math participated in the first ever "Math Teach-Off" event.The premise of the event was simple: three groups of students would take a quiz on a mathematical concept. Then, each group would be taught about the concept for an hour by one of three Faculty of Math instructors, including Pure Math lecturer Blake Madill (pictured second from right).
