Engaging with EDI Content as a Graduate Student Workshop with Tristan Fassel

°¿²ÔÌýMonday, OctoberÌý25th²¹²Ô»åÌýFriday, October 29³Ù³óÌýfrom 12:00-1:00 p.m.,ÌýTristanÌýFassel, MSW(they/them), a community and program developer for a developmental services organization in the À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ region,Ìýwill present a two-part virtual workshop on the topic of engaging with EDI-related content as a graduate student.ÌýThe first part of this workshop will focus on providing graduate students with the information and emotional skills they need to engage with challenging EDI material. Part two will focus on the actions that graduate students can take to support equity in their professional lives, with reference to issues faced by members of LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse groups.ÌýIn these sessions, Tristan will also incorporate information about the history of psychology, including highlighting historical instances of inequality within the field.

EDI Speaker Series: Student Session with Dr. Stephanie Fryberg

The Psychology EDI Working Group is pleased to announce our first speaker event. On Friday December 3rd, from 11:00am-12:00pm we will be hosting a student-focused session with Professor Stephanie Fryberg. Stephanie will share some remarks on her time as a student and her career path followed by moderated Q&A with questions sent in advance. Stephanie is a member of the Tulalip tribe Ìý() whose research and teaching includes the impact of Native American mascots on Native American children’s self-identity, testifying before the U.S. Senate onÌýStolen Identities: The impact of racist stereotypes on Indigenous people ²¹²Ô»åÌýworking with students in the Naskapi community of Kawawachikamach in Quebec. Faculty Gender Inclusion Workshop

°Â³ó²¹³Ù?ÌýYou are invited to participate in an evidence-based workshop on gender inclusion in science, sponsored by our department’s EDI working group. This interactive session, designed by and for scientists, examines empirical findings related to stereotyping and bias, along with strategies for increasing inclusion.ÌýTopics include organizational values, diversity in teams, overcoming barriers, and promoting a broadly inclusive culture through allyship in research, hiring, and training.Ìý

Why?ÌýFostering equity, diversity, and inclusion is an urgent institutional and societal priority. Unlike many commercial training initiatives (see Paluck, 2006, 2022), this session is data driven, with evidence of effectiveness from a rigorous longitudinal randomized controlled trial, includingÌýmeasurable positive impacts up to 18-20 months later.

Graduate School Personal Statement Workshop

Join us on November 8th at 10:00am to learn about what makes a compelling personal statement in graduate school applications.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about and receive feedback on your own personal statements.
This event aims to provide insight into the graduate school application process in order to enhance opportunity and access for students from traditionally underrepresented and marginalized groups, but all interested students are welcome to attend.
