Feridun Hamdullahpur, president and vice-chancellor of the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ, read the following statement to a news conference earlier today.

It is with deep regret that we have confirmed the death of a member of our campus community and student body, who was struck by lightning this morning during an unexpected storm, and died of her injuries.

The family of the deceased student have requested privacy, and have asked that we not release the student’s name.

June was a momentous month for the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ on many levels. To begin with, Convocation is without a doubt one of the most refreshing, rejuvenating, and meaningful events of the year, and Spring Convocation 2014 was no different.

Both at home and abroad, May has been an exciting month for À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ.

As you know, building our international profile and prominence is an important part of our Strategic Plan. In pursuit of that goal, I led a delegation of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ administrators and researchers to visit some of our key partners in China this month and the results have been excellent.
