New research aims to create a surface coating that will kill COVID-19 on contact

New research is underway to develop a coating that will kill the COVID-19 virus immediately upon contact with any surface. The antiviral coating could be applied to all personal protective equipment and high-touch surfaces, greatly reducing the risk of community transmission of the virus.

A researcher in MME at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering is part of a team that has been awarded US $412,000 by the National Football League (NFL) to develop a better, safer helmet.

Duane Cronin, a professor of mechanical and mechatronics engineering, will contribute sophisticated impact testing and advanced computer modelling to optimize helmet performance and reduce the risk of head injuries.

The awarded Gordon Stubley in the inaugural class of CEEA Fellows.  The designation of Fellow honours individuals who have demonstrated noteworthy service to engineering education, engineering leadership, or engineering design education through their work with CEEA-ACEG.  Congratulations Gordon from all of us in MME!

A researcher at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering has won $265,000 in federal backing to develop a palm-sized device capable of detecting COVID-19 infection within 30 minutes.

It’s hard to imagine how Mariko Shimoda had time to become an engineer with all of her community involvement. The Mechanical Engineering graduate (BASC ’20) clearly excels and can juggle a lot and do it well - she was hired full-time by her co-op placement.
