Research-based

For full-time students, the PhD is a 4-year program from a master degree and 6 years from a bachelor, and the MASc is a 2-year program. You will be taking 3 to 7  courses plus an original research and thesis. On Top of the guaranteed minimum funding provided, the students are eligible for TA and RA. No supervisor is required at the application stage, a supervisor is needed to get an offer of admission. Visit our Research and supervisors page with the details about how to contact them.Ìý

For part-time students, the PhD is an 8-year program, and the MASc is a 4-year program. You will be taking 1Ìýto 2 courses per term plus an original research and thesis.  Part-time students are not eligible for minimum funding.Ìý

Students have the option to apply to the Collaborative program in Nanotechnology.Ìý

Doctoral (PhD)

Exceptional MASc applicants may be considered for direct-entry to the PhD program from a bachelor’s program. Applicants interested in being considered for a direct-entry PhD should include a statement to that effect in their Supplementary Information Form (SIF) when applying to the MASc.Ìý

Master of Applied Science (MASc)

Undergraduate students at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ have the option to enrol in the Accelerated Master’s program to accomplish some of the work required for a MASc degree.Ìý


Nanotechnology Collaborative Program

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Applied Science (MASc) Mechanical and Mechatronics - Nanotechnology​Ìý

The University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ offers the first MASc and PhD programs in Nanotechnology of its kind in Canada. The MASc collaborative program provides a strong foundation in the emerging areas of nano-engineering in preparation for the workforce or for further graduate study and research leading to a doctoral degree. Course-basedÌý

Master of Engineering (MEng)Ìý Ìý

Expand your knowledge, professional training, and skills in Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering by completing a course-based master’s program (MEng). MME also offers a co-operative MEng program, where students can integrate a 4- or 8-month fully-paid co-op into their degree. The self-funded, coursework-based degree can be customized by selecting 8 coursesÌýamong the many graduate courses in our department and within the Faculty of Engineering.Ìý Students can choose to pursue the degree on a full-time or part-time basis. A full-time MEng student can expect to complete their coursework in 4 terms (16 months).

Collaborative Master of Engineering in Health Technologies (MEng)

Health care is at a turning point with advances in AI, wearable tech, and telemedicine, while simultaneously challenged by aging populations, chronic diseases, access issues, and global pandemics. The Health Technology Master of Engineering program seeks to empower students to bridge the gap and drive transformative change in a complex and evolving world through a mechanical engineering perspective.

Students will selectÌý9 courses. In addition, the master's program has a mandatory co-op, during which students gain practical industrial experience in health technologies.Ìý

Admission Requirements

Find the MME admission requirements on the Graduate Studies and postdoctoral affairs (GSPA) Academic Calendar and start to prepare the application documents to give enough time to upload them by the deadline date.  Ìý

Only for the research-based PhD and MASc programs, the admission depends on the student finding a suitable supervisor. You don’t need a supervisor to apply, so we suggest that you apply, upload all materials and then start the process of trying to make contact with the faculty members in the Mechanical and Mechatronics research area(s) that you are interested in. Follow the steps and advice about how to find a supervisor.​​Ìý
