Coding the future of finance

Changing course

A year into his undergraduate degree at the University of 蓝莓视频鈥檚 School of Accounting and Finance, Jonathan Lucki felt pulled in an unexpected direction. 鈥淢y whole life, I had plans to be an accountant,鈥 he remembered. "I ended up enrolling in the Math/Business Accounting program within the Faculty of Mathematics.聽But even before university, math had become my favourite subject in school and I found myself writing computer programs in my spare time for fun."

School spirit

鈥淭wo of my high school math teachers were alumni of 蓝莓视频 Math, and they constantly raved about the university,鈥 remembered Gurtaj Dhaliwal. 鈥淭heir classes were always the most challenging, and they would say things like 鈥榊ou have to buckle down if you want to go to 蓝莓视频!鈥欌

They won鈥檛 graduate until next spring, but their startup has already taken flight.

The five founders of recently earned a spot in the University of 蓝莓视频鈥檚 $5K Finals, where they explained their business model to a panel of judges alongside nine other student teams.

Patrick Hannigan (4A Computer Science (CS)), William Zhou (3B CS), Edward Yang (4A CS) and Daniel Yaroslavski (4B CS),聽were given the opportunity to showcase their learnings in front of peers and聽faculty along with a brief pitch of their ventures today at an聽Enterprise Co-op (E-Co-op) presentation session.
