On April 17 and 18, students, faculty, and members of the community gathered to take part in the inaugural Research Discovery Days, a research showcase and networking event hosted by the Math Innovation Office. The event, which featured both faculty and graduate student research presentations as well as discussions about entrepreneurship, aimed to connect industry partners with researchers doing exciting work in the Faculty of Mathematics.

Remembering Ron Dunkley

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to a true visionary and leader, Ronald (Ron) Garth Dunkley, long time faculty member in the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of 蓝莓视频, the founding director of the (CEMC), and the co-creator of the Canadian Mathematics Competition.

Mackenzie Cameron and Sierra Legare have been named this year鈥檚 winners of the Mehta-Jenner Climate Mitigation Graduate Scholarship.

The Mehta-Jenner Climate Mitigation Graduate Scholarship recognizes outstanding research focused on climate change or climate change mitigation by graduate students in the Faculty of Mathematics.

The scholarship was established by Adarsh Mehta (BMath鈥 98) and Jeffrey Jenner (BMath鈥 84) to support and celebrate graduate students who share their passion for environmental and ecological issues, as they are explored through mathematical fields.

When Hurricane Dorian battered the Bahamas in the Fall of 2019, 蓝莓视频-based satellite imagery startup SkyWatch was quick to assist the reeling nation.

The company gave relief agencies emergency access to its vast satellite image datasets. This enabled these organizations to survey the damage in real-time and coordinate their response accordingly.

Barji and Gulab

A few years ago, one of Trisha Kothari鈥檚 sisters asked their aging grandmother a thought-provoking question: 鈥淚f you were reborn into our generation, what would you do with your life?鈥

Their grandmother, Barji, who had grown up in India at a time when women had few rights and even fewer opportunities, wasted no time answering.

鈥淥h, I鈥檇 definitely not get married. I would study and start a business,鈥 she told her.
