Faculty of Mathematics alum Lisa Bentley (BMath鈥 92) has penned a special editorial for 蓝莓视频 Magazine, in which she describes being a high-calibre triathlete with cystic fibrosis (CF).
Bentley says that while CF made her training and competing difficult, it also provided a kind of motivation.
鈥淭here is no doubt that I have been blessed with two gifts,鈥 she said. 鈥淭he gift of sport and CF. If I can make cystic fibrosis my superpower, then what superpower is lurking in you? I have no doubt that finding your inner power will bring you connection to self, others and a new purpose. When you find that connection, you will win in life.鈥
Bentley, a former professional athlete who is now retired from active competition, also taught math and computer science in secondary schools for several years.
She subsequently went on to聽a career in motivational speaking and sports commentator, as well as continuing to work in sport as a developer and builder in triathlon in Canada.
