Workshop Overview
This session will share, in an accessible, digestible way, the current state of knowledge around airborne illness and how we can protect ourselves against it, both in our workplaces and in our daily lives. Attendees will learn practical strategies for protecting themselves against airborne illness, and will be introduced to a range of community and campus resources they can rely upon to assess the quality of the air and protect themselves against airborne transmission.Ìý

Angela Rooke’s formal role at the University is Manager, Academic Success and Retention at the Student Success Office. During the pandemic, she became an advocate for better indoor air quality and more robust health promotion at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ. She has supported the work of theÌýCovid Action, Response and Equity Coalition at UW since its inception and sees pandemic mitigation as a crucial equity, inclusion, and accessibility issue.ÌýÌý
Ryan TennantÌýis a PhD Candidate in the Department of Systems Design Engineering. Since 2023, he has been organizing and facilitating workshops on indoor air quality with students, faculty, and staff at À¶Ý®ÊÓÆµ, including building do-it-yourself air cleaners. Ryan volunteers with COVID-19 Resource Canada and Ontario School Safety, and is also part of the Covid Action, Response and Equity Coalition at UW, where he believes indoor air quality is an underrecognized accessibility and inclusion issue.Ìý
