2018-2021 Salary Settlement Reached

The FAUW Board is pleased to announce that salary negotiations with the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ have come to a successful conclusion and the negotiating teams have signed a three-year agreement effective May 1, 2018.

The agreement includes, among other things, a scale increase of 2.0% in 2018 and 2.15% in 2019 and 2020, and an across-the-board salary adjustment of $850 per member.

The new Complementary Teaching Assessment Project Team (CTAPT) is seeking members.

Background

At its October meeting, the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Senate debated and passed the following motion by senator and FAUW vice president Shannon Dea: “To strike a working group to research and develop methods of assessing teaching and learning complementary to Student Course Perception surveys.â€

On October 26, FAUW held a 60th anniversary discussion exploring the unique relationship between faculty and the administration at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ, and presented our first FAUW Appreciation Awards to honour members of the University community who have made real differences in the lives of faculty members.

Al Binns received the award for compassionately and discreetly helping faculty to navigate confidential emergency situations; Lynne Taylor for negotiating and co-chairing the 2015 salary anomalies review, and securing regular anomaly reviews into the future; and Linda Brogden for supporting faculty members through some of the most difficult times of their careers and for her role in changing the conversation about faculty illness and mental health on campus.

We Want to See Where You Work

We're looking for the best (and worst) of all kinds of workspaces, from superbly decorated to stupendously cluttered.

All faculty workspaces are eligible. You do not need to be a FAUW member to enter – all faculty of all kinds at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ and affiliated institutions can enter.

My goal coming into this position was to ensure that I left it with a strong organizational structure, sound staffing, a talented successor, and a strong board and, while any achievements are hardly my doing alone, I can say that as a group we have met all these expectations. FAUW is in very good hands.

, which highlights some new events FAUW is introducing this year.

Faculty association representatives from more than ten Ontario universities recently presented at , including FAUW's president, Sally Gunz.

"The use of exploitive hiring exists across universities. Highly qualified instructors have no employment security, comparatively low pay, and in many cases no pension or benefits."

FAUW President Sally Gunz's report to the membership at the Spring General Meeting on April 6, 2017, is now posted on the FAUW blog. The report covers outgoing Board members, the Hagey Lecture, the Course Evaluation Project, mental health concerns, FAUW communications developments, and more.

It is with great pleasure that FAUW's Status of Women and Equity Committee announces the winner of the 2017 Equity and Inclusivity Award: the À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Aboriginal Education Centre.

The Equity and Inclusivity Award is a celebration of members of our community whose actions have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to improving equity, inclusivity, and/or diversity at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.
