Reactive Transport Modelling course was a success!

From May 12 to 23, 2025, Philippe Van Cappellen and Fereidoun Rezanezhad offered EARTH 652: Reactive Transport Modelling at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ.

This course was designed for graduate students and professionals with a background in (geo)chemistry and environmental transport processes, plus a working knowledge of partial differential equations (PDEs).

In the 2-week intensive course, students reviewed the unifying concepts and mathematical representations of reactive transport modelling. Focus was on coupling biogeochemical reactions to transport processes in surface and near-surface environments (e.g., lakes, soils, sediments, tailings ponds, shallow aquifers). Students learned how to conceptualize, solve, and use reactive transport models (RTMs). They wrote their own numerical codes and were introduced to existing RTM tools.
