Value description:
Up to $5,000

Eligibility & selection criteria:
Applicants must:

  • Be registered full-time in a PhD program
  • Be in good academic standing with a realistic plan of completing their degree within 1-2 terms of receiving the award (term of award plus one additional term)
  • Not have previously received this award
  • Be in program extension

Only doctoral students who are no longer receiving minimum funding and/or have experienced research interruptions that were beyond their control will be eligible for this funding.

Based on the observation that Indigenous scholarship tends to require longer timelines as a result of both research methods and content, and to align with the principles embodied in the University’s approach to developing Indigenous initiatives, priority will be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous*.

*For the purpose of this award, an Indigenous person is one who is a citizen or member of a First Nations community (Status/Non-Status), Métis, and/or Inuit. To protect the integrity of Indigenous candidates, students are required to complete the Indigenous Declaration section in Quest in accordance with the Indigenous Verification process as outlined on the Office of Indigenous Relations website.
