Who would have imagined that structural engineering videos made at UW would reach more than 5 million people around the world? But that is exactly what happened when (now retired) and his team made a series of videos that featured classroom models they had built.

Michelle Liu and Allie Kennington were thrilled when À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering introduced a senior position intended to ensure all students feel respected and empowered to pursue their aspirations.Ìý

They both feel the new role of associate dean of outreach, equity and diversity will make a difference to theÌýFaculty’sÌý2SLGBTQ+Ìýand other marginalized communities.Ìý

Spring 2021 saw another online edition of the MTE CivE Design Pitch Competition and the CIVE400 capstone teams put on a good show. A very impressive performance by all.Ìý Congratulations! The winning teams are:

The class of CIVE230: Engineering and Sustainable Development have been at it again, learning remotely in Spring 2021. This is the second COVID-19 edition of the course!

Learning about sustainability requires systems-thinking and a curiosity to explore. When learning opportunities are created for students so that they may go beyond the course content by learning from the world around us and from each other, they get so much more out of the course.

The most harmful air pollutant worldwide is fine particular matter. In Canada, the biggest natural source of this pollutant is wildfires. Winds can spread wildfire smoke over a wide area, affecting areas hundreds of kilometres downwind.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has announced thatÌý

Five professors at À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering will receive a total of almost $874,000 under a federal program designed to give exceptional researchers the tools and equipment needed to become leaders in their fields. The recipients are among 21 researchers campus-wide at the University of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ announced today for almost $2.66 million in backing through the Canada Foundation forÌýInnovation’s John R. An alumnus of À¶Ý®ÊÓƵ Engineering who went on to a professional football career will be honoured with a mural in his Ontario hometown after a successful campaign by a determined group of kids.ÌýStudents in a grades 7 and 8 French immersion class at J. Douglas Hodgson Elementary School urged politicians in Haliburton to recognize the achievements of Taly Williams (BASc ’94, civil engineering) and his sister Lesley Tashlin alongside five local athletes already featured on an arena wall.

TheÌýWaterÌýInstituteÌýis pleased to announce that two research teams have been awarded funding in the recentÌý2021 seed grant competition. TheÌýWaterÌýInstitute’s seed grant program was initiated in 2014 to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration, international partnerships, and to encourage the development of research proposals that tackle increasingly complex globalÌýwaterÌýissues.
