This new technology will help battle climate change as it captures waste��anesthetic��gases exhaled by patients undergoing surgery.

Marzieh Riahinezhad (PhD, Chemical Engineering, September 2015) received the international and extremely prestigious “Best Dissertation of the Year ADIPEC Award” in excellence in energy (November 2015). Marzieh’s PhD thesis was selected by an international scientific panel of 26 judges in the oil and gas industry as one of the top three best dissertations of 2015 in energy, worldwide.

Alison Scott (BASc ‘13, MASc ‘15, ��ݮ��Ƶ), a PhD candidate in the Department of Chemical Engineering, has been awarded the��2015 J. Alan George Leadership Award. This entrance award is offered to female PhD students who demonstrate outstanding leadership.

Congratulations to the ��ݮ��Ƶ iGEM team, and their advisors, Marc Aucoin (ChE), Trevor Charles (Biol), Brian Ingalls (Appl Math), Andrew Doxey (Biol), Barb Moffat (Biol) who were awarded Gold, Best Poster, and Best Software Tool and were nominated for Best Foundational Advance project at the 2015 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition held in Boston, MA. The team competed against more than 260 student teams from around the globe.

The department of Chemical Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of David Simakov to our faculty. In his new role as assistant professor, he will teach reaction engineering and transport phenomena and continue his research in sustainable reaction engineering. David is a respected researcher, with publications in several leading journals, including Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews, Catalysis Science & Technology and Applied Catalysis. In addition to his role in Chemical Engineering, David will be actively engaged with the ��ݮ��Ƶ Institute for Sustainable Energy (WISE) and the Centre for Bioengineering and Biotechnology.

Garry Rempel��was appointed��as Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to the field of chemical engineering, notably for advancing research in rubber technology. He is a professor in ��chemical engineering and affiliated with the ��ݮ��Ƶ Institute for Nanotechnology.
