Inspiring Female Engineers

Meet Melanie Pastorious, a graduate of the University of ݮƵ's Chemical Engineering class of 1999. For over two decades, she has been a trailblazer in the male-dominated beer industry, achieving many career successes. Melanie attributes part of her career success to the University of ݮƵ's co-op program, which exposed her to diverse engineering jobs in various industries, helping her discover her passion.

In 2020 Jared Cheverie attained an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of ݮƵ and faced the daunting prospect of looking for work during the global pandemic. Cheverie had begun a Master’s program online when he ran across an article titled “Canadian mining companies go begging!” The article chronicled the shortage of employees in Canada’s critical mining sector.

The Process Systems Engineering group (PSE) in the Department of Chemical Engineering recently organized the 2023 Control and Stats Meeting on May 8th and 9th. This event provided an opportunity to showcase the research projects of professors and graduate students from various universities in Ontario and Quebec, focusing on the field of process systems engineering.

Controlled environment agriculture (CEA) is becoming an increasingly important approach for increasing the sustainability of food production globally. CEA enables the minimization of resource usage, reduced environmental effects, and improved productivity.
