Hey grads! Are you interested in learning how to perfect your presentations and boost your writing abilities? Then join us for our Speak Like a Scholar program!Â
We’re hiring undergraduate, master’s, and PhD UÀ¶Ý®ÊÓƵ students from all faculties to be peer tutors at the WCC next year. Our tutors meet with their peers in-person at the Library, in the WCC offices in SCH, as well as virtually from their own homes. They coach their peers on assignments, theses, research articles, grad school applications, research statements, and other documents.
The Writing and Communication Centre's one-to-one tutor appointments are one of, if not our most, impressive and well-received student-oriented services. Every day, the WCC receives messages from undergraduate and graduate students detailing how much they enjoyed meeting with our tutors and how much they appreciated their help. From cover letters to theses, our tutors are always prepared to provide you with high quality guidance on your work. With this in mind, the WCC would like to introduce a few of our fantastic tutors and share some of their thoughts with you!Â
This three part workshop series can give you the tips and information you need to plan, draft, and revise your thesis, dissertation, or your dissertation proposal. While the first session has already passed by, you can still join in for the second and third parts of the series!Â
The WCC English Conversation Circles have been around since 2011 and have been particularly helpful for those who want to practice their oral English skills. We have a long tradition of friendly, relaxed groups sharing their stories and learning about Canada. For example, when talking about Canada Day, while the participants asked the facilitators about foods Canadians like to eat for their holidays, they also shared what foods they liked to eat for holidays in their home countries. The pandemic was, of course, challenging, but it helped us discover new ways that we could get together to talk and learn, while still maintaining a safe and respectful environment.
The Writing and Communication Centre is proud to announce that we are once again offering our IBPOC Cafés! These graduate-student oriented cafés work as spaces where students identifying as Indigenous, Black, and people of colour can come together to form a supportive community of writers and friends! Please be aware that this is an intentional IBPOC-only space.
From starting to write at the university level to putting the very final touches on your thesis, our workshops cover a wide variety of material that is aimed towards helping graduate and undergraduate students to master the world of writing! For example, here are a few of the workshops and resources that we are currently offering to grads and undergrads.
Wondering what the Writing and Communication Centre is all about? Then come and see the WCC like a student would. This Friday, October 14, the WCC will be hosting members of the Uwaterloo community at an open house organized through the Student Success Office's See it Like a Student event. Interested in joining us? Drop by South Campus Hall room 219 anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for an in-person tour of the WCC.Â

The IBPOC Writing Café is a space where graduate students identifying as Indigenous, Black, and people of colour can come together to form a supportive community of writers. This is an intentional IBPOC-only space. You can join the IBPOC writing groups channel through WCC’s Teams.
