Why is creativity so elusive? We see artists and poets and marvel agape at their powers of creation, but in truth creativity is a learned thing 鈥 a practice of insight and introspection. You too have the potential to produce art almost as good as the greats, if only you look in the right places. It doesn鈥檛 matter that no one鈥檚 listening.

The Oxford comma, also known as the serial comma, is one of those writing conventions in English that people either love or hate. If you were one of the lucky few in high school to have an English teacher who was particularly passionate about the subject, then you probably know what I鈥檓 talking about. The most important thing to know about the Oxford comma is that it isn鈥檛 a clear cut grammar rule. In other words, it is what one could call 鈥渙ptional punctuation鈥.

Okay, so how are you all feeling about final exams this December? Pretty solid? Great? Possibly even excited, because exams are a blast? Of course. These are all natural responses to one of the most exciting events on the academic calendar. Therefore, I feel this is a fitting time to impart some of the tips I鈥檝e gathered over the years. Make sure to take these 100% literally, and you鈥檒l crush your exams this season.

Choosing a Topic

I鈥檓 hungry (I鈥檓 always hungry), so I think about the options I have. It鈥檚 a bit overwhelming: Should I cook or should I buy? Should I eat a lot or should I just snack? Is there even food in the fridge (and by this, I mean is there anything I want in the fridge)?

Show and Tell

You鈥檙e sitting in your little wooden cubicle at the corner of an office. Your laptop is open in front of you; a picture of a black cat stares at you. Its lime-green eyes look into yours.

You maximize your Microsoft Word document. It鈥檚 blindingly white.

End of Term Blues

There鈥檚 this weird bittersweet feeling we tend to get when something is coming to an end. It doesn鈥檛 matter whether the ending is a good or bad thing: it鈥檚 just somewhat sad every single time! This isn鈥檛 a question of reverse-schadenfreude either.
