What's the Word

Often when I listen to podcasts, I find myself unfamiliar with some of the terminology being used. Even more often, I find myself forgetting them after I鈥檝e looked them up in the dictionary.

(Check out our for new comics weekly!!!)

I鈥檓 probably not the only one with this problem, so how do I retain this information?

The 3 Rs of University Survival

When someone hears mention of the 3 Rs they usually think of reduce, reuse, and recycle (I do at least).聽 Well, I am here to tell you that there is another list of Rs you should look into if you want to survive university!聽 The list consists of being reasonable, being responsible, and being rational.聽 If you do not like using schedules for organizing your time, these 3 words will help you manage your time and think through choices you have to make.

I鈥檓 sure you know the stressful feeling when midterms are either just around the corner or already happening. 聽As midterms come around the corner, it feels like students simultaneously take out their blinders, put them on and think 鈥渘o distractions, only study鈥. 聽Everyone becomes machinelike; you feel as if you can read the notes someone else studied the night before because they are etched so deep into their brain that you can see it in their eyes.

Show and Tell

You鈥檙e sitting in your little wooden cubicle at the corner of an office. Your laptop is open in front of you; a picture of a black cat stares at you. Its lime-green eyes look into yours.

You maximize your Microsoft Word document. It鈥檚 blindingly white.

You lean back on your soft green office chair and sigh. You spin around, facing away from your cubicle. You look at the clock on the white wall to your left: 3:55PM.

You notice that you are bouncing your right leg.

End of Term Blues

There鈥檚 this weird bittersweet feeling we tend to get when something is coming to an end. It doesn鈥檛 matter whether the ending is a good or bad thing: it鈥檚 just somewhat sad every single time! This isn鈥檛 a question of reverse-schadenfreude either. I have no answer for you.聽I鈥檓 sure there鈥檚 research on the web that can explain this聽but to avoid having to create聽a Works Cited list, here鈥檚 how I've always dealt聽with change.

Going to school for the first time was wild

Free Writing

In the last few weeks I鈥檝e been listening to the Mortified podcast, which features adults reading their adolescent diaries in front of a live audience, with no exaggeration, no embellishment, 鈥渏ust god-given awkwardness鈥. Every episode is guaranteed to produce cringing smiles.

I kept a diary of my own for six years, running from grade nine through my first year of university.
