Overage dependent set up

If your dependent is or will be turning 21 in the upcoming school year, in order for them to remain on your benefit plan, you will need to indicate in Workday if they are a full time student by following the instructions below.

Edit dependent student status

  1. Navigate to your profile by clicking the profile icon and selectingÌýView Profile.

  1. Select Benefits from the menu on the left and click the My Dependents subtab at the top of the resulting screen.
  2. Click the Edit button associated with the applicable dependent.

  1. In the Effective Date field at the top of the screen, enter the date your child turns/turned 21.
  2. Scroll down to the Is this a full-time student section and click the edit button to select the Full-Time Student check box.
  3. Enter the start of term date in the Student Status Start Date field.
  4. In the Student Status End Date field, enter August 31st of the year they are graduating.

  1. Click Submit.

Note: If your child has turned 21 and has been removed as a dependent from your benefit plan, after updating the student status, they will also need to be added back to your plan, following the steps below. If your dependent is showing as listed in your Benefit Elections beside your Extended Health and Dental plan(s) (if applicable), no further action is required.

Add student dependent

  1. Click Benefit ElectionsÌýunder Benefits.

  2. Click theÌýChange BenefitsÌýbutton

  1. From theÌýChange Reason options, select Add OverageÌýDependent.
  2. In the Benefit Event Date field, enter the day after your child’s 21st birthday OR the first day of the term that they are enrolled as a full time student

NOTE: you will not be able to initiate event more than 90 days in the past

  1. Click Submit without attaching anything.

Note: No changes are completed at this point. If you navigated away from this task without clicking Open, this task will be saved in your Workday inbox for you to complete and submit from there.

Health care elections

  1. Click ManageÌýunder the Extended Health Care plan.

  1. Click Confirm and Continue to go to the dependents screen.

  2. Click the check box beside the student's name to select them.Ìý

Note: If your child's name is not listed here, you need to update their student status first by following the instructions above.

  1. Click Save.
  2. If you also have dental coverage, dependents will default to the same as those entered in the Extended Health Care plan, unless you are a part-time employee with the option to waive.ÌýÌý
  3. Click Review and SignÌýat the bottom of the screenÌýto go to the review and electronic signature screen.

Review and Sign

  1. Review all benefit election changes and legal notice.
  2. Scroll down and select the I Agree checkbox.

  1. Click Submit.
  2. This next page presents a summary of your benefit elections for your reference only. You may choose to print or save this page or just click Done. Do not send this page to Human Resources.
